Planning with sensitivity
Getting planning approval can be a difficult process particularly where the project in question has a strong emotional attachment with the local community.
With the sale of the Cocoa Works in York we understood the sensitivities involved. We were able to include the public in the process of understanding how the site would look, whilst also working in partnership with the planning authority to ensure the client was able to maximise the value of the site.
By being sympathetic yet professional we achieved a highly successful result. The Senior Planning Officer at York City Council commented “This is how planning should be dealt with.”
The gentle art of persuasion
On the one hand, a client wanting planning position for a standard grey box production facility. On the other, it had to be built near a national park.
First thought; that’s not going to work! Second thought; this is going to be tricky.
By persuading the client that a grey box would mean planning refusal, we were then able to secure consent for a building that featured outstanding design and the use of local materials.
The success of the project is reflected in this now being seen as a benchmark design for green belt development.
